Hiring - Email Marketing Specialist in DC

The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the leading publications in the higher-education and nonprofit sectors, have an opportunity for an Email Marketing Specialist to join our Washington, DC based Marketing team.

 

The Email Marketing Specialist will be responsible for creating, automating, and measuring engaging email marketing campaigns for The Chronicle. The Email Marketing Specialist will be the main point of contact for all business promotional emails, and will coordinate with the marketing communications team members and other stakeholders to contribute towards the development of copy and/or content as it relates to campaign strategy. The Marketing Specialist will manage The Chronicle’s marketing automation system. 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Perform day-to-day email marketing activities including, but not limited to, email and landing page set-up, segmentation, scheduling, testing, and deployment of one-time, recurring, triggered, and dynamic content-driven campaigns.
  • Assist with producing and troubleshooting outbound email campaigns including HTML templates, list segmentation, and other aspects of email execution, as required.

  · Continuously optimize email and segmentation strategies to drive higher returns through testing of subject lines, messaging, images, offers, frequency, segments, etc. 

  • Provide leadership and stay updated on trends, technologies and growth opportunities to ensure a best-in-class email-marketing program.
  • Manage The Chronicle’s unsubscribe process and apply The Chronicle’s privacy policy to ensure compliance.
  • Update advertiser/university/nonprofit microsites for both The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy using The Chronicle’s CRM.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of The Chronicle’s business websites including updating and maintaining library of promotional one-sheet PDFs linked from the pages of business Web site.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of e-mail marketing best practices.
  • An understanding of user experience design best practices.
  • Basic HTML knowledge.

  · Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze campaign performance. 

  • Experience creating and implementing lead scoring programs is a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge/awareness of the higher education and nonprofit industries a plus, but not required.

 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or equivalent field of study is preferred.

 

Experience: 2-3 years’ experience in email-marketing role utilizing marketing email service providers or online tools, such as Eloqua and Adobe Marketing Cloud. Direct experience with Salesforce.com integration is a plus, but not required.
